πŸ“ Measuring The Ratio Between Time And Energy (Planet Dyne S2023E48)

πŸ“ Measuring The Ratio Between Time And Energy (Planet Dyne S2023E48)

After spending a considerable amount of time in orbit around a blue planet in the suburbs of this galaxy, Planet Dyne is back inside your mailbox!

πŸ”” It's that time of the year!

The season changes, hotter or cooler, depending on where you are. But the warmth in dynes' heart goes up up up! It is a time to contemplate what has happened during this round around the sun, the dynes we love and the projects that have carried us on their shoulders. And so dynes gift!

Every dyne knows that time is more precious than money. The time it takes Dyne.org to raise money could be spent on more important things. Like hacking the planet to empower artists, creatives and citizens in the digital age. Or bring forth the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the 21st century in sovereignty.

That's why we'd like to ask you, fellow dyne, to make a smol donation.

Regardless of size, it can create time for Dyne.org and make a huge difference. Imagine what Dyne.org can do with one hour of hacking. Now imagine buying a smol coffee for a dev, keeping them coding for more hours with the passion derived from your generosity!

This is your chance to make a difference, the moment to become an active part of something bigger. Now is the time to open your heart and your wallet.

On our freshly opened ko-fi page, you can make significant and smol donations. Regardless of size, you will receive a delicious Artpack as a token of appreciation. Inside of it? Simple beauty! Maybe a little bit of mystery, too. But Planet Dyne's residents certainly hope it will make you feel something positive.

Dyne.org exists thanks to dynes like You. By no means should you feel guilty if you cannot contribute by financial means. There are many ways to contribute. Simply showing your unique self in the conversation and sharing your thoughts is an act of radical beauty.

πŸͺ Why was planet dyne absent for so long?

If you wonder where the redaction went, it worked on Unifying a Federation of Planets. Remember the days of mailing lists? You don't? Oh well... It was a fantastic medium where dynes could shout or cheer at other invisible dynes from the internet. One of the great things about Mailing lists is that they have a federated nature. It doesn't matter if you are using a home-built mail server; you can send mail to a mailing list address. This mailing list will then redistribute your email to everyone who is subscribing to it. Regardless if they use hotmale or goggole. In modern terms... Imagine you posted a picture on Instagram, and Tiktok users could also interact with it! Sounds modern, futuristic? Well, it's not. Since everybody hates to admit they love email and love to hate their shiny webshit apps, some people have created a mashup of both worlds. It's called the "Fediverse".

The frowning echoed across the ether: "the Fedi-what?"

The Fediverse. You probably know it as "Mastodon", which is a big part of it, but not all. There are plenty of different webshit servers available to interact with the Fediverse. The one that got the redaction's attention is called Lemmy.

Lemmy acts like a mailing list for the Fediverse. It allows dynes to create groups where anyone with a Fediverse account can participate. When someone sends a post to the group, it re-posts it to everyone who is following the group. And all of the Fediverse can interact with it in ways that feel granted today: Hiking, Subculture or even Cementing!

Feel free to request an account, just don’t forget to write a nice poem to motivate your request.

πŸ’© Enshittification

β€œEnshittification did not result from the decay of the morals of tech company but rather, from the collapse of the forces that discipline corporate wrongdoing.”
C. Doctorow

Ow, do dynes enjoy the ramblings of the good old Doctor? Some of them for sure. Cory produces a sharp and fierce analysis of webshits going to shit. Some time back, he even coined a self-explanatory word for it: β€œEnshittification”. He eloquently argues the beanbags and ping-pong tables in the buffet cafeteria of corporate IT workplaces were just means to make worker drop their guard. Which resonates pretty deeply in the sector, especially all those who've been layed off.

πŸ’Έ And now, a word from our sponsor.

Feeling squeaky from the gloomy news? Is the season making you rusty and moist? Are your mechanism sticky or are you unsure if you are binary or non-binary? Fear no-more: WD40 sprays both ways!

πŸŽ„ Volunteering for the poor corporations

Free labor is fashionable on Planet Bigbizniz. Some corporation located there, in the business of emotional surveillance and occasional music rental is failing to turn a profit, again. To help the company up their user-base, the good inhabitants spread the word and show the entire galaxy how much they are being surveilled. Simon Cain wraps it up pretty eloquently.

Support Off The Mark

Humans are fragile creatures, very cute and cuddly. "But not all humans", someone mutters in the back. Well, a new experiment has been conducted and the results are suggesting they all are! Potentially. The "but" lays in their bu… erhm… insecurities that make them do irrational things.

πŸ“Š The economy of attention

Asking questions is a core component of a dyne's identity. But not all questions need an answer. Some of them don't even have one. Not yet anyways. One dyne proxies a thought-provoking Tom Wait meme on the nature of wondering and the delights of pondering simple facts before finding them out.

Of course, some neighbors complain about the loud volume of anti-intellectual music that they are hearing in the distance. But the general discourse is rather profound.

πŸ‘©πŸΎβ€πŸ’» Coding oneself out of the Void

You might have heard of this, but some dynes are building something called Zenroom. It's a super tiny, mega-powerful, ultra-compatible open source Virtual Machine. It's goal is to give crypto-power to the people. During this fall, the anchor was set for the v4 series. And a webinar was held that should be of interest for you, fellow dyne.

Zenroom is used in many beautiful project, such as the Global Passport Project. (You should check it out!) And if you have moment or two, be a sweet dyne and help promote the ongoing awareness campaign with a boost on Mastodon, a rexeet Xitter, a share on Facebuck or LankedIn.

That’s it for this edition of β€œPlanet Dyne Is Amazing And You Know It”. Join us for the co-creation of next episode and as always:

Don't forget to hike, subculture and support Dyne.org!
